5 New season trends

Update your wardrobe with these key pieces from spring’s new collections…

1. Animal Print

Animal prints never go far away, and they’re certainly out in force this spring! However, this season it’s all about not taking them too seriously – this tunic from Masai (£78) is a chic way to get the look with its fine, close-weave leopard print detail: fabulous with leggings right now or as a beach cover up in the summer. Or take a look at Saint Tropez for its slouchy v-neck jumpers (£42.95) in leopard print with pops of blue or pink – amazing with jeans and ankle boots.

2. Pastel Power

Don’t underestimate the power of pastels. They make a strong style statement this spring and the paler you go the more power you wield! This oversized silk shirt in sugar pink by Great Plains (£85) is a case in point – worn with off white slouchy trousers, it’s a soft look with attitude! You can play with colour of course, and Noa Noa have a lovely pair of aqua-coloured linen trousers with green piping detail on the pocket (£79) – a dream with a cool, white t-shirt and sneakers.

3. Splendid Stripes

A perennial spring favourite, stripes give a nod to warmer times ahead. However, ditch the nautical, Riviera stripes this season and focus on shape, silhouette and colour. This scoop neck, crop top from Masai (£78) proves that you can wear stripes in a fluid fabric and form – the graduated grey banding is hugely flattering and gives a more modern approach. For a punchier line, take a look at the Marlston hoodie by Joules (£39.95). With its tightly packed stripes in neon pink, it covers three trends all at once – stripes, fluoro and athleisure wear!

4. Fluoro Pops

While pastels = power, little pops of fluoro = attitude as this vest top from Joules (£39.95) demonstrates nicely! What could have been a modest little top oozes ‘look at me’ appeal thanks to the neon pink stitching around the neck line, complete with another spring trend, tassels! You could up the attitude even further by teaming with one of the neon scarves from our latest find, Happy Few – see our New Brands for Spring feature to find out more…

5. Statement Sleeves

Unless you’ve been hibernating under a rock all winter, you can’t fail to have noticed that this season is all about the sleeve! Bell-shaped, fluted, flared and frayed, the sleeve is all we’re talking about at the moment. This sheer ivory top from Great Plains (£65) is a romantic take on the look with its softly embroidered spots and gathered waistline – try it with skinny 3/4 jeans to balance the look. For something altogether more daring, head to Darling and try on their mint green Harmonie top with its fluted sleeves and cross body opening – a fabulous find for sunny spring days.
